We love cooking with sausages in our house and these honey and mustard glazed cocktail sausages are our new favourite!

Cocktail sausages are the ultimate party food, perfect for nibbling with a cocktail stick. One of my friends serves these at every party and they always are a huge hit, so I decided to re-create them.

The sticky, sweet yet slightly tangy glaze is out of this world, making it nearly impossible to stop going back for more!

They’re delicious served hot or at room temperature, so can easily be prepared before your guests arrive.

Wow your guests with a full party buffet spread or grazing board alongside these egg free breaded chicken goujons, crispy baked cauliflower bites, ham & cheese pinwheels & puff pastry pizza.

❤️ 4 Reasons You Will Love This Recipe

    1. It’s Allergy Friendly: As long as you make sure the sausages you use don't contain any gluten, then these honey and mustard sausages are dairy-free, egg-free and gluten-free!
    2. Made With Only 4 Ingredients: Sausages, honey, mustard, salt and that’s it!
    3. Delicious Served Hot or Cold: Making these honey mustard sausages the perfect dish to make in advance.
    4. Simple To Make: Just whip up an easy marinade, drizzle over the sausages and you are all set!

    🥘 Ingredients Needed & Substitutions

All you need is 4 simple, store-cupboard ingredients to make these sweet & sticky sausages!

Ingredients laid out for honey and mustard sausages.
    • Sausages: Don't forget to check the packaging for gluten content since many sausages use it as a filler ingredient. Plain cocktail sausages are best to use to really allow the honey and mustard flavour to shine through.
    • Honey: Use a clear, runny honey to coat the sausages.
    • Mustard: The best mustard to use is wholegrain mustard, as I find it gives the best mustard flavour and you get the texture from the mustard seeds as they cling to the sausage. If you do not have any wholegrain mustard you could use Dijon mustard instead, which has a slightly milder flavour.
    • Salt: The salt really helps to enhance the flavours. Use sea salt rather than table salt for the best results.

✋ Be sure to double check all packaging for allergens. ✋

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    ⚡ Variations

These honey and mustard glazed sausages are awesome just as they are, but if you want to mix up the flavour a bit more here are some more ideas!

    • Spicy: Add a spicy kick by using some red pepper/chilli flakes or hot sauce into the glaze.
    • Maple Syrup: Substitute honey with maple syrup for a unique sweet and smoky taste.
    • Balsamic: Add a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar for a touch of acidity.
    • Asian-inspired: Mix in soy sauce, ginger, and a dash of sesame oil to give your sausages an Asian flair.
    • Herb-infused: Add fresh or dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, or sage to the glaze for a herbal twist.
    • Smoky: Enhance the smokiness by using a teaspoon of smoked paprika to the glaze.
    • Bacon-Wrapped: Wrap the sausages with bacon strips before brushing on the honey mustard glaze for a festive treat.

🤔 Which Sausages Are Best To Use?

This recipe calls out for cocktail sausages! These bite-sized delights are ideal as they are the perfect size for finger food!

You can usually find frozen cocktail sausages in all of the major supermarkets & if you can find fresh ones, even better!

Watch out for the pesky gluten though, as they sometimes sneak it into sausages, so always double check the packaging if you are following a gluten free diet.

That being said, the honey and mustard glaze tastes just as delicious on normal sausages too!

Pair them with some carrot and swede mash & Brussels sprouts with bacon and garlic for a hearty, winter meal.

✏️ How To Make Honey & Mustard Sausages

⬇️ Here you will find an overview of how to make the recipe. For full information on ingredients and quantities please see the recipe card at the bottom of the page ⬇️

With only 5 minutes prep time and a few ingredients, this is one of the easiest, yet tastiest things you can make!

Raw cocktail sausages on a baking tray.

    Step 1: Arrange & Bake

Take your cocktail sausages and arrange them neatly in a single layer on a baking tray. If your tray isn’t non-stick or to make cleanup easier, you might want to line the tray with baking parchment or aluminium foil.

Bake the sausages in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes.

We cook them without the glaze first, to allow you to drain away the majority of the fat released by the sausages. Draining the fat will help the honey and mustard glaze stick better to the sausages (and also makes them a bit healthier too!)

    Step 2: Prepare The Glaze

While the sausages are baking, you can prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, combine the honey, whole-grain mustard, and a pinch of salt.

Stir everything together until the mixture becomes a smooth and well-blended glaze.

    Step 3: Coat The Sausages:

When the initial 10 minutes are up, remove the sausages from the oven. Drizzle the glaze evenly over the sausages, and then gently stir with a wooden spoon until every sausage is fully coated in the glaze.

Step 4: Return To The Oven

Return the sausages to the oven & let them cook for an additional 15 minutes, turning them once during this time to get an even caramelisation to the sausages.

Allow to cool slightly before serving and enjoy!

🤔 Can You Cook The Sausages In The Air Fryer?

Yes! Simply preheat the air fryer to 180˚C / 355˚F and when ready add the sausages to the air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes.

Make up the glaze as per the standard recipe and once the 5 minutes are up, remove the sausages from the air fryer and pour over the honey and mustard glaze. Stir to fully coat the sausages in the mixture and return to the air fryer for a further 10 minutes until the sausages have caramelised.

Don't forget to give the sausages a shake halfway through cooking.

You may want to use an air fryer liner to minimise clearing up as it will make a sticky mess in the basket otherwise!

    💡 Tips & Tricks

    • Depending on how much fat is released from the sausages in the first stage of cooking, you may want to drain this away and discard it. This in turn will help the sticky glaze attach itself better to the sausages.
    • If you don’t have non stick baking trays or just don't want the hassle of clearing up, you can line the baking sheet with either baking parchment or aluminium foil, Another option is to cook the sausages in a disposable foil tray.
    • If you are using the air fryer to cook the sausages, I recommend using an air fryer liner to minimise clear up.
    • Give the glazed sausages a good stir halfway through cooking to make sure the sticky marinade has coated all of the sausages.
    • Pack any leftover sausages for a picnic or in the kid's lunchboxes for a tasty lunch treat.

    🥡 Storage, Reheating and Freezing

    Leftovers

For best results, I would advise eating these sausages straight away. I mean, you will probably find there are none left anyway, but if you do have leftovers they will keep in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

    Reheating

To reheat, pop them on a tray in the oven at 180˚C / 355˚F for around 10 minutes until piping hot throughout.

    Freezing

To freeze, cool the sausages quickly on the kitchen side & place them in a freezer safe container, where they will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.

When you are ready to eat, let them thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat as above.

    🍴 Serving Suggestions

Serve these honey and mustard glazed sausages in a bowl with some cocktail sticks poking out as part of a party spread or grazing table.

Some other options I love to serve with them are these salt & pepper baked chicken wings & gluten-free mini sausage rolls.

They are also great as a go-to fridge snack or with some cajun style fries and baked beans for an easy dinner!

    💬 Recipe FAQs
